San Jose, CA. – July 25, 2016 – On Friday evening, July 22, 2016, at the Santa Clara Convention Center, Kimaya Chalpe won the title of Miss California State at the California State Youth Accolades Scholarship Competition. She is also the recipient of a $10,000 scholarship. For her on stage talent she performed the pop song “Hello” by Adele. The competition finals took place on Thursday & Friday, July 21-22 at the Santa Clara Convention Center.
Kimaya is 18 years old and a graduate of the Head-Royce School, and she currently attends New York University. Her career ambition is to be a communications/public relations specialist.
Theater and performing arts are Kimaya’s primary interests and she uses both of these to give back to her community. In school, she participated in all the school plays and was a member and choreographer of the school dance ensemble for four years. In 2013 she founded the theatre group, ROAR Productions that performs at assisted living and nursing homes and has led and organized all rehearsals and performances through this year. Kimaya also led and organized annual Indian Cultural Fundraiser shows, raising more than $2,000. She participated in the Jenny Lin Foundation, singing with the choir for music fundraisers.
